Jersey Americana For The World

People always ask us, "What kind of music do you play"?
Could be a booking agent, venue owner, friends, etc, etc.
Well, we're  thinking about calling it , " Jersey Americana " .

Cheryl Botson Reardon on Facebook wrote ,  - Heard The Bohemian Mechanics at the Bus Stop Music Cafe a few times and think "Jersey Americana" fits your sound/vibe well... from the Pinelands to the Baylands... it's "down Jersey Soul"!

Long Time Gone

It's Been a long time since we/I blogged but ... here it is ...

We've been spending a lot of time recording and have over a CD's worth of songs "in the can".   We will be releasing this material soon.  Secondly, We are looking to start performing live again with the addition of Shawn Robinson on drums.  We are combining our old Bluesbox material with what we have created with The Bohemian Mechanics.

"Industry Professionals"

After we created the website, I started a band page on Facebook. When I saw  the group pages, I signed up for four music related groups. Due to an innocent misunderstanding, I posted our music on one particular group page and received
a friendly message  that the group was for  music that was not heard very often, though they were commercially released trax from albums, records and CDs.
I was also told that it was not for self promotion from " Industry Professionals" like The Bohemian Mechanics. I…

Fifty Years Ago

Fifty years ago, I was a  fourteen year old school boy living at a home for poor, white (the civil rights act of 1964 was passed that year and changed the "white" bit), male (this also changed) orphans. The school/home for boys, or as referred to  by the initiated as the "hum", was Girard College. It is located in North Philadelphia, PA.

Girard College was founded in 1848 and was established and built thru  the execution of  the late Steven Girard's will. I don't want to go on about "Stevie the One-Eyed…

The NJX Demo Sessions

The NJX Demo Sessions

Bluesbox was the band, a 3 piece blues trio, that we formed after FK and  I finished the "Before The Night Is Through" CD. It was me, JD on guitar and vocals,
FK on bass and Shawn Robinson on drums. After playing gigs for about a year or so we started working on the Bluesbox CD "Boxing Day". It took us, oh I don't know (?), about 8 or 9 months to finish. I remember, it was  started in the fall and continued thru the winter months. The summer of that year (?) we started recording…

Who We Were And What We Are

Who We Were And What We Are

This is our first blog and the first blog I have ever written. So, hello everyone and please be kind! I'd like to talk a little about the band's history for those of you who know us and and those of you who have recently stumbled upon us (ouch!).
Frank Barbera (aka Frankie B)  and I (aka JD) go back a long , long time.
I guess the band we were most proud of was JD and the Ravens having recorded an independant label CD , " Wild And Strange" and played in NYC at Kenney's…
